How does it benefit me?

In addition to receiving one-hour no fee payable parking during the working week and on weekends, the one-hour parking trial will provide valuable feedback on the impact of parking on neighbourhood retail high street areas of the City of Perth.

How will the one-hour no fee parking affect my business?

The one-hour no fee parking trial aims to see more foot traffic and increase neighbourhood high street retail and community patronage. This will be measured during the 12-month trial.

Do I have a say about the trial?

The one-hour no fee parking trial will provide valuable feedback on the impact of parking on high street retail in key areas of the City of Perth. Whether you’re a business or visitor, you can access information on the Engage Perth website. You may see roving people taking surveys on Royal Street otherwise, please call 9461 1570 to have your say.

What is happening to other parking bays? Are the time limits still applicable?

Loading zones bays will stay the same and only commercial vehicles can occupy these bays for 30 minutes at any given time, as per the current City of Perth parking local law. There are no changes to 15 minutes and 5-minute bays and these, too, will be managed as per the current signage on the street.

30-minute bays which currently require a fee to be paid will be changed to 30 minute no fee payable bays as part of this parking trial. Please note, there is no impact upon existing residential permit parking bays in the Royal Street location.

Are there any other neighbourhood precincts/areas that will be considered for one-hour no fee parking outside of the council motion?

As per the notice of motion, the primary focus is on trials over the next 12 months in the nominated neighbourhoods of Claisebrook, East Perth and West Perth. This will inform the City of future considerations applicable to other areas.

What is happening to ACROD parking bays?

If you park in an ACROD only bay, then the current time limit and or restrictions still apply.

There are limited numbers of ACROD bays and therefore parking is permitted for ACROD permit holders in regular parking bays.

If you park in one of the trial No fee payable bays, then the following rules apply:

A vehicle displaying a valid Disabilities Parking Permit, parking in a time restricted parking bay may park for:

    • 30 minutes if the time limit indicated on the parking sign is under 30 minutes.
    • 2 hours if the time limit indicated on the parking sign is in between 30 and 60 minutes.
    • For twice the time limit indicated on the sign if the time limit is over 60 minutes.

Once the time has expired the vehicle must vacate the parking bay.

Why does it look like you’re trying to infringe drivers or vehicles in the trial area?

Making sure people abide by the one-hour no fee payable parking is a process that requires inspection by our parking officers who are out on the streets in designated beats. As such, there will be no change or additional shifts to the normal enforcement routine in the area. The City can issue infringements where customers have overstayed or not paid for parking to allow for fair access to parking bays to create turnover for businesses and services across the city.
