The City of Perth is pleased to advise that new road safety improvements are proposed for Terrace Road between Victoria Avenue and Plain Street, Perth.

These measures address ongoing feedback from the community on traffic speeds, poor visibility at intersections and driveways. The City has been successful in accessing a Government Black Spot Program grant to improve the safety of Terrace Road.

Following the initial community consultation completed in 2023, the design of the traffic calming measures have been refined to address the issues highlighted during the consultation process.

Notably, through the engineering design phase of the project it was established that the raised intersection treatments as a traffic calming measure at Hill and Bennett Street would create drainage issues and flooding to adjacent properties. As such, the raised intersections have been replaced by a number of raised plateaus between Victoria Avenue and Plain Street.

Below is a summary of the traffic calming measures that have been proposed for Terrace Road. A copy of the design can be found in the documents tab.

• Installation of raised plateaus between Victoria Avenue and Plain Streets

• A continuous painted median between Victoria Avenue and Plain Street with islands at key locations

• Footpath extensions and extended paving to narrow the road and create new pedestrian crossing points

• Localised removal of parking bays at intersections and driveways for improved sight lines

Please note that some minor adjustments may be made as construction progresses and to incorporate some early feedback around design near Bennett Street.
