The City of Perth Library is an iconic Perth building which opened in December 2015. Designed by Kerry Hill Architects and built by Doric Contractors, the building has received many awards and accolades. However, the stone cladding that is featured on the outside of the building has been impacted by expansion and contraction defects and needs to be replaced.

During regular routine inspections of the building, pieces of loose stone have been detected and removed. A recent survey has shown that more stone is failing and has become a risk to the public.

To ensure public safety, the City will remove all the existing stone and replace it with a new façade. Before that work starts, a safety barrier will be installed around the library. People will still be able to access the library, but the barrier will remove the risk of falling stone.

Please note: The Library will remain open during this period.

The Page 7 Café Entrance to the Library, located off Cathedral Plaza, will be temporarily closed from 26 – 30 August to allow the installation of access equipment required to undertake the façade replacement. During this time access to the Library and Page 7 Café will be via the main entrance along Hay Street.
