Consultation has concluded

Kaya wandjoo noonakoort (Hello and welcome everyone)

We all share a common love of Perth and a desire to live, work and socialise in a safe and secure city.

Project background

Our SafeCity Strategy has always aimed to achieve a safe and secure city. The 2016 – 2020 Strategy is coming to the end of its life cycle and preparation for the next strategy is underway. With your assistance, the 2020 - 2024 SafeCity Strategy (the Strategy) is being revised and we expect it to be completed by August 2020.

PROJECT UPDATE:

Due to the impacts of COVID-19, changes to the Strategic Community Plan and the clarity in Council priority, there has been a slight change in direction and branding of the Strategy.

The SafeCity Strategy will now be known as the SafeCity Plan and will better align with the current needs of the community and strategic direction of the elected council.

We expect the final SafeCity Plan 2021 - 2025 to be ready for distribution in September 2021.

The SafeCity Strategy is one of 12 priorities for short term focus by the Commissioners and Executive. Past community consultation showed that safety was a major community concern and that feeling safe is a priority. This community commentary drove Aspiration 1 in our Strategic Community Plan which states

People - A safe, activated and welcoming city that celebrates its diversity and sense of community.

This Strategy will provide the focus needed to support actions to achieve the following Strategic Community Plan objectives:

1.1 Safe, clean and inviting public places that are well patronised and enjoyed by all.

1.5 Infrastructure, activities and programs that stimulate and entertain youth to reduce antisocial behaviour.

2.7 Safe and enjoyable experiences in the public realm enabled by smart technologies, innovative design and quality infrastructure.

The work of putting together the SafeCity Strategy will be undertaken by the CSA (Community Safety team) with support from internal and external stakeholder groups, residents, businesses, workers and visitors. We have heard your many comments, expressions and feedback over the past 4 years and have pulled these together to prepare the draft focus areas and objectives document for your comments.

What Can You Do to Help?

We all have a role to play in managing our own safety and contributing to the safety of others. This includes personal safety, creating safe spaces, protecting property, promoting safe behaviours and working towards minimising harm. So to help us prepare a Strategy that represents the Perth community, we would love you to:

  1. Please take a look at the SafeCity Presentation Video (9min) This will give you an overview of the project and,
  2. Read the Draft Strategy Focus Areas and Objectives document, then
  3. Using the tools at the bottom of the page, provide your feedback on:
    • Our draft focus areas and objectives,
    • Issues and concerns specific to you, your neighbourhood, work or business area or the areas you visit or recreate in, and
    • Suggested actions that could achieve the objectives that have been proposed.

Once we have gathered your feedback, we will review it alongside specific feedback from experts in the safety, security, emergency and public health realms and industry best practice, to help us write the draft Strategy. This draft will then go out for final comment and endorsement. Once endorsed we will submit the finalised Strategy to council for their comment and ultimately, their sign off.

We are aiming to have this all completed by May 2021, ready to put into action.

Please take your time, browse the site and provide your local feedback to help us on this journey to a SafeCity

You know your area of the City better than anyone. We would love to hear your suggestions in ways to improve our City in the the 5 focus areas of our Strategy:

    • Anti-Social Behaviour
    • Surveillance and Monitoring
    • Drugs, Alcohol and Mental Health
    • Emergency Management
    • Safe Environments

Feel free to comment on other suggestions posted. Get the conversation going among your peers. Be open and honest  but please be fair and respectful.

In addition to the above, you can help the City gain the real picture of crime and safety. It would be really helpful to hear real experiences from real people just like you. Share both positive and your most challenging personal encounters:

    • When was the incident?
    • What happened?
    • Where were you?
    • What actions did you take or who did you report the incident to?
    • What was the outcome of your action?
    • What could be done to reduce the chances of this happening to someone else?

Please share only what you are comfortable sharing
