The City of Perth is planning to enhance Russell Square, the only significant green open space in Northbridge, to support various contemporary uses and growing community.
What’s been done to date?
The community was consulted via Engage Perth in late September 2023 to find out how people currently use the park and their aspirations to help shape the future of the space. View the survey summary.
The City has also conducted research and analysis to form an Urban Design Study which outlines the current conditions, key issues and opportunities. This study helps to guide the concept design development. View the Urban Design Study.
What’s happening now?
We are developing a draft concept plan to improve Russell Square. This draft plan will help us work with the community to shape a final concept plan.
Design is underway. The project timeline for Russell Square Revitalisation has been amended to follow the Perth Cultural Centre Rejuvenation and James Street Revitalisation. Design will take several years and in the meantime we will be working on the next stage of the James Street Revitalisation project.

Design of this project will take several years, with construction planned following the Perth Cultural Centre Rejuvenation and James Street Revitalisation projects.
