Revitalising the City for a Vibrant Community: Building Perth's Future Sport & Recreation Hub
Thank you to everyone who took part in the engagement process, including the survey, engagement sessions, community drop-in session, and through Engage Perth. Your input has been helpful in shaping the Masterplan.
The Masterplan involves consolidating various sports and community facilities to make the most efficient use of land and available resources, and combining this in a new urban precinct with a mix of uses.
This new precinct will take advantage of connections to some of new additions to the City such as the Causeway Bridge and provide a place for residents and visitors alike to enjoy. It will also enhance the eastern gateway of the City, creating a vibrant new destination.
The Draft Masterplan is now available for public comment!
The intent for the masterplan is to:
· Provide a range of multi-sport and community facilities including a new bowling club
· Investigate development opportunities for City-owned land, providing a potential funding source for sport and rec
· Ensure that development potential provides community benefit and improves facilities/amenity · Increase housing and the residential population of the City in line with the Local Planning Strategy and State Government infill housing targets, addressing the current housing crisis
· Provide justification for a Scheme Amendment to unlock development potential and value of the site
The draft Masterplan has been developed following extensive community consultation in 2024, a detailed site analysis, a Sports and Recreation Needs Analysis and Market and Economic Assessment.
The draft Masterplan anticipates that the site will be used for a mix of uses in the future and encompasses sport, recreation and community uses, as well as residential and commercial uses.
The sport, recreation and community site will encompass a mix of open-air facilities and built facilities that will service the local and broader community. It is anticipated that the existing bowling club will be accommodated within this portion of the site.
The development site will be where the existing bowling club is located. It is proposed to accommodate a mix of residential and commercial uses. Due to the site’s iconic location at the eastern entry of the CBD, building heights in keeping with surrounding tall buildings and planning regulations of high-scale residential use of above 16 storeys are possible. Developments of this scale could accommodate approximately 400 dwellings.
