Consultation has concluded

Project background

Owned by the WA State Government, the car park at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC) has been affected by continuous, progressive subsidence that has affected 85 per cent of the total car park area and the City sought a permanent subsidence rectification solution in 2017. The cost estimate for the proposed solution is high, therefore research options for a more cost-effective renewal solution was sought.

Following the study, it was determined that a renewal/maintenance option would be the most cost-effective solution. The project scope for the renewal option includes relay asphalt to original finish levels throughout the critical areas of subsidence and all other associated civil works.

It is proposed to break down the renewal works into three stages (please refer to the map of works here Map of Works - PCEC Subsidence Renewal Project), with no more than 120 parking bays closed off at any one time, with a separate contractor laydown area provided for the duration of the works.

The renewal solution provides a low-cost alternative to the long term engineered solution and will reduce unevenness of the surface, making the car park safe and accessible for all its users.

It is important to note that the scheduling of these works has been designed to minimise the impact on car park users and the City of Perth and the contractor will work closely with PCEC and other stakeholders to effectively manage and minimise the impact of the works.

The carpark operates as a separate entity from the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.
