PLAYGROUND RENEWAL PROGRAM 2023-2024

The City’s parks and gardens offer a range of amenities to its growing residential community including several small playgrounds throughout its neighbourhood boundary, some of which are reaching their end of life and need to be renewed.

JH Abrahams Playground constructed in 2007, is scheduled for renewal. As part of its annual Playground Renewal Program the City engaged the services of Four Landscape Studios and in consultation with the Department of Biodiversity and Conservation (DBCA) produced a design for a new nature-based playground that is sympathetic to the existing landscape and riverpark.

WHAT WILL THE NEW PLAYGROUND INCLUDE?

  • Rock Scramble
  • Stone and Log Steppers
  • Balance Logs
  • Basket Swing
  • Flying Fox
  • Parkour
  • Basket Ball Court Refresh
  • Raise Platform Slide
  • Timber and Rope Climbing Platform
  • Bike Rack
  • Water Fountain
  • Native Trees and Planting
  • Stacked stone seating

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

The Swan River is significant to Traditional Custodians of the area and the wider Perth community. The Playground renewal was considered under the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH) and determined to not impact Aboriginal Heritage or Heritage places.

JH Abrahams Reserve falls wholly within the Swan Canning Development Control Area (DCA). Under the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006 (and Regulations 2007), development activities occurring within the DCA are subject to the approval of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA). The City has worked closely with DBCA to ensure that the playground design is sympathetic to the existing landscape and riverpark and will not impact bush forever zones.
