Project Summary
Heritage is the continued care and conservation for the stories, objects and places that are important for our local history and identity. The preparation of a Heritage Strategy for Perth recognises the significant role that heritage plays in the life of our city.
The Draft Heritage Strategy offers an opportunity for community to comment on the priorities and approaches to cultural heritage management that the City of Perth is proposing for the next five years. These priorities aim to help understand, protect, support, promote and celebrate Perth’s history and heritage.
Changes are happening to heritage legislation in Western Australia. 2019 will see the roll out of the new Heritage Act 2018 and associated regulations, which will affect local government management of heritage places. The State Government is also consulting on a new Aboriginal Heritage Act which will replace the outdated Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972.
A Background and Issues Paper has been prepared to provide additional context and background on heritage matters in the City of Perth. The City is not seeking comment on this document as it is provided for information only.
