Project overview

The City of Perth is investigating options to redevelop the Fire Station Car Park at 1–13 Murray Street, Perth, with the aim of delivering a modern, well‑functioning facility that continues to support access to the city while responding to changing parking demand, planning policy and long‑term financial sustainability.

The project is currently in an investigation and planning phase. No final decisions have been made.

What we’re looking to achieve

The Fire Station Car Park Redevelopment is being explored to:

  • ensure the City continues to provide appropriate public parking in the CBD
  • respond to changing travel and parking patterns
  • make best use of a strategically located City‑owned site
  • support broader planning, economic and place outcomes for the city

Any future redevelopment would be subject to further approvals and community engagement.

Project lifecycle

The project is progressing through a staged lifecycle to ensure decisions are well‑informed and transparent.

1. Investigation and concept development (current / completed)

  • High‑level redevelopment options have been explored.
  • Concept designs have been prepared to understand what could be delivered on the site.
  • These concepts are used to test feasibility only and are not final designs.

2. Feasibility and draft business case development (current)

  • The City is assessing redevelopment options from a planning, financial and operational perspective.
  • This includes comparing different options, understanding costs and benefits, and identifying risks.
  • This work helps inform whether and how the project should proceed.

3. Decision‑making

  • Findings from the business case will inform internal decision‑making.
  • Any decision to proceed would be subject to appropriate governance and approvals.

4. Future stages (if approved)

If the project proceeds beyond investigation, future stages may include:

  • detailed design
  • further community engagement
  • planning approvals
  • construction

These stages would be communicated publicly if and when they occur.

What’s happening now

The City is currently:

  • refining redevelopment options for the site
  • undertaking further feasibility and business case work
  • ensuring options align with planning policy, parking needs and long‑term City objectives

This work does not commit the City to a particular outcome.

What we’re not doing yet

At this stage, the City is not:

  • finalising a redevelopment design
  • committing funding for construction
  • entering construction contracts
  • removing the existing car park

Keeping the community informed

The City is committed to keeping the community informed as the project progresses. Updates will be provided on this page as key milestones are reached and decisions are made.
