Why is the City undertaking the project?
The City of Perth is investigating options to redevelop the Fire Station Car Park at 1–13 Murray Street, Perth to ensure the ongoing provision of public parking in the city.
Over coming years, a number of existing parking facilities in and around the CBD are expected to change or be removed as part of broader redevelopment and infrastructure projects. This creates a need to plan ahead and consider how parking demand can continue to be met.
As part of the Corporate Business Plan 2024/25, Elected Members endorsed a detailed investigation and feasibility assessment of redevelopment opportunities for the Fire Station Car Park site. This work is exploring options that may include a multi‑storey car park, and potentially complementary residential or community uses, while retaining the site’s primary role in providing public parking.
No final decisions have been made.

Community input forms one part of the information used to guide decision‑making.
Will there be changes in the way that the site is used?
All redevelopment options being explored retain public parking as the primary use of the site and consider an increase in the number of parking bays compared to the existing facility.
Some options may also explore complementary uses, such as residential or community facilities, where these support broader city outcomes. However, the City is not considering removing the site’s role as a public car park.
Any future change would be subject to further investigation, approvals and engagement.
How long will this project take?
The project is progressing through a staged investigation process, including feasibility analysis and draft business case development.
Timeframes will depend on the outcomes of these investigations and subsequent decision‑making. Updates will be provided on this page as the project reaches key milestones.
