The Roe Street Final Masterplan was adopted by Council on 17 December 2019. The project is currently in detailed design, with construction expected to commence in early 2021. A detailed program of works will be provided once available.

Project Overview

The City is proposing to upgrade Roe Street to compliment the Perth City Link development, reconnect the Central Business District with Northbridge and facilitate regeneration of the area.

It is proposed that Roe Street will be upgraded to have:

  • Wider footpaths to accommodate increased pedestrian movement and activity, including alfresco dining;
  • Protected uni-directional cycle lanes to improve the safety of cyclists and pedestrians as well as ensuring integration into the overall cycle network to the city;
  • A narrower street corridor to encourage lower vehicle speeds and to make it easier for pedestrians to cross;
  • New street trees to provide shade, urban cooling and greenery;
  • New street lighting and CCTV to improve public safety and support the night-time economy; and
  • New paving, street furniture and City of Perth free public Wi-Fi to support activity.

Existing traffic volumes have been accommodated to prevent traffic congestion and on-street parking has been retained where possible to support businesses on Roe Street.
