The story so far

In early 2022, phase one of the Retail Core Refresh project was completed in Hay Street Mall. It has breathed new life into the space by renewing existing street furniture, creating murals, and providing new seating choices for people to enjoy.

Following on from the success of the Hay Street Mall Refresh a similar program of works is proposed in Murray Street Mall as part of phase two of the Retail Core Refresh.

The ‘refresh’ works proposed for Murray Street Mall include:

  • Painting of existing infrastructure such as light poles and planter boxes.
  • Decluttering by consolidating regulative signage and lowering fire hydrants (DEFES approved).
  • Commissioning additional murals that showcase the diversity of local artists and tell stories of place.
  • New way-finding signage throughout.
  • Installation of a range of seating types to encourage more people to enjoy the mall.
  • Integration of lighting in communal tables.
  • Refurbishment of the existing concrete seats created by Perth artist David Walker.
  • Highlighting the gateways at either end of the mall with enhancement lighting to the trees.
  • Enhancement lighting to the soffit of the David Jones bridge.

The overall refresh is scheduled to be completed by June 2023.
