The City of Perth is pleased to announce the renewal and upgrade works at Langley Park Toilets and Changerooms will be undertaken to improve the existing condition and provide adequate level of service. These works will commence from Monday, 29 April to Friday, 20 December 2024 at the Langley Park Changerooms. Please note above mentioned dates are subject to change, pending permit approvals. Refurbishment works will have the following tangible benefits:

  • Improve the existing condition by carrying out essential works to the building
  • Provide universal access facilities
  • Provide an adequate level of service and capacity to function as changing rooms and multipurposed spaces
  • Comply with current building regulations including the National Construction Code 2022 and Australian Standards

Background

The Langley Park Changerooms was constructed in 1969, with the verandah added to the southern façade in 1977. It has been poorly utilised and is in need of refurbishment works to enable full public usage again.

The public toilets within the building are in poor condition and non-compliant with current building regulations and contemporary standards and apart from these toilets, the building has mostly been left closed and unused for several years.

A Disability Access Audit, completed in February 2022, found the changerooms did not comply with current legislation and provided recommendations to improve the condition to meet the current standards.

In October 2022, work was completed to mitigate further deterioration of the building fabric, through the replacement of the roofing and other works to the building’s exterior.

In order to understand community needs and priorities, and inform a future use strategy for the building, the City engaged a consultant to undertake community engagement and prepare a feasibility report exploring options for its adaptive reuse.

The City has now decided to upgrade the facility through undertaking additional refurbishment and adaption works to the changerooms which provides an adequate level of service and capacity for the City’s future needs.

Please Note:

  • The building will be fenced off for the duration of the construction works. No pedestrian access will be impacted during these works.
  • There will be a mild level of noise from these works with all noise produced conforming to the Australian Standards.
