Consultation has concluded

To help promote safety in Northbridge, WA Police are proposing a trial closure of James Street on Friday and Saturday nights over four weeks from the 28th October 2022.



WHY A TRIAL?

WA Police will use the trial to assess whether a James Street road closure has a positive impact on community safety. The WA Police have requested the City of Perth assist with the closure trial.


EVENT DETAILS

On Friday and Saturday nights James Street will become a Pedestrian Mall between Lake and William Streets. All roads, driveways and laneways will be closed to traffic and will reopen the following morning.

Closures will come into effect from 4pm on the 28th October and 5pm on all other dates. Roads will reopen at 5am each morning of the trial.

The City of Perth will activate the space thanks to funding from the State Government CBD Revitalisation Grant Program.

 


ROAD CLOSURES AND PARKING RESTRICTIONS

• "No Parking" restrictions will commence at 4pm.

• All vehicles (including motorbikes) must be removed from the area, as infringements may apply.

• There will be strictly no private vehicle access in to any of the road closures.

• See below for details on changes to food delivery services.

• Taxi services and rideshare vehicles are encouraged to use Melbourne Street bays and other designated bays throughout Northbridge.

FOOD DELIVERY SERVICE CHANGES


If you are also a food delivery service, please make yourself and your drivers aware of the following changes.

• Cars, motorbikes, mopeds must find alternative parking and ARE NOT permitted inside the road closure.

• Manual bikes, scooters and e-rideables ARE permitted inside the closure adhering to Road Traffic legislation.

• Convenient parking areas for manual and e-rideable equipment has been provided, please see above "Event Road Closure Map" which shows two different locations.

ACCESS TO PUBLIC CARPARKS

Access to Wilson Carpark, Bury Street or Nicks Lane will only be available from Roe Street. Access to or from James Street during the road closure will not be possible. Access to other public carparks in the area including the CPP Cultural Centre, Citiplace, State Library and Roe Street carparks will not be impacted.

As Roe Street roadworks are ongoing, please make yourself aware of any changed traffic conditions by visiting the City of Perth Road Closures webpage.
