FAQ's - James Street Spring Closure

What is the trial and why are we doing it?

To help promote safety in Northbridge, WA Police are proposing a trial closure of James Street on Friday and Saturday nights for four weeks from the 28th October 2022.

WA Police will use the trial to assess impacts on community safety. The WA Police have requested the City of Perth assist with the closure trial.

    When is the trial?

The trial will run on both Friday and Saturday nights on four consecutive weekends commencing from the 28th October 2022. The streets will close from 5:00pm – 5:00am on both Friday and Saturday nights during these times. Further information on Engage Perth.

Note: First day of closure (28/10/2022) will have traffic management close streets at 4:00pm (1 hour earlier)

    Parking within area?

Parking bays in James Street will be hooded from 2:00pm with parking restrictions commencing at 4:00pm. Roads, laneways and private driveways will be open outside these times. A temporary parking area will be set up for e-rideables, manual bikes and scooters to use – e-rideables will be permitted to ride inside closure (See the map section attached). Maps and further information are listed on Engage Perth.

What about food delivery or patrons accessing my restaurant? i.e. Delivery Drivers, Rideshare, Taxi

The WA Police recognise local restaurants rely on food delivery drivers and venue patrons. These services rely on being able to stop close to the business to assist in timely delivery. Patrons requiring rideshare or taxi services seek safe transitions between venues and vehicles. Maps and further information on Engage Perth Website.

How can my business get involved?

If you are a food or beverage business, you can get involved by applying to extend or setup alfresco dining areas within the road closure area. If you don’t have an alfresco permit, you can apply for a 'Free Outdoor Dining Permit' (businesses must comply with permit T+C’s).
