What does the Culture and Arts Advisory Group do?

    The Group is a consultative forum that provides strategic advice to the Administration and Council on arts and cultural matters.

    Specifically, the objectives of the Group include:

    • Advocating for the needs of the community and cultural stakeholders
    • Providing advice on planned and opportunistic ideas and activities with a view to on managing conflicting priorities and resources
    • Providing feedback and advice on the review and implementation of City of Perth's Cultural Development Plan 2019 - 2029 including identifying emerging issues 
    • Providing guidance and advice on best practice for cultural activities referencing applicable guidelines and legislation.

    The Group is not a Committee of Council and does not have any decision-making authority.

    How do I nominate?

    To nominate, fill in the form below and upload your resume and a short biography (maximum 250 words) to demonstrate your relevant qualifications, knowledge and experience in respect to the relevant Selection Criteria.

    What is the criteria for nomination?

    Nominees must demonstrate a high level of expertise and experience in one of the following areas:

    •    Creative practitioner

    •    Public art consultancy or curation

    •    Cultural collection management

    •    Art critique or art history

    •    Heritage and History

    •    Landscape architecture or architecture

    •    Ecology/cultural heritage

    •    Urban design or town planning

    •    Cultural institutions (including libraries)

    •    State Government (creative industries)

    •    Major cultural events/festivals

    •    Aboriginal cultural heritage and arts practice

    •    Multicultural interests or international exchange

    •    Cultural Tourism

    •    Creative Industries

    Nominees will be assessed based on the following criteria:

    1. Extent to which the applicant demonstrates relevant knowledge, specialist expertise, technical proficiency and professional experience in a field of specific relevance to cultural development, specifically arts, heritage, festivals, and/or cultural Institutions, including libraries. 
    2. Extent to which the applicant demonstrates a high level of professional accomplishment within the sector and broadly as a Capital City leader.
    3. Members will be selected with a view to representing a broad spectrum of the creative sector.
    4. Cultural and linguistic diversity and gender balance and diversity will also be a consideration in the composition of the groups to ensure they are representative of the community they will serve and encourage a diverse range of perspectives, ideas and recommendations.  


    How will applicants be selected?

     At the close of the nomination period, the City will assess the applications based on the prospective members’ relevant qualifications and/or experience and the required membership composition outlined above. 

    Applicants may be interviewed as part of the selection process. Members are appointed in writing by the Chief Executive Officer of the City of Perth.

    When and where does Culture and Arts Advisory Group meet?

    The Culture and Arts Advisory Group meets quarterly at Council House. The next meeting will be held at 12pm on Wednesday 8 June 2022.

    When will I know if I have been successful?

    The City will notify all applicants by May 2022
