Culture and Arts Advisory Group call for Nominations
As we look toward 2029 and the city’s long‑term future, we have an opportunity to shape a cultural landscape that reflects our values, honours our histories, and inspires the generations to come. The City of Perth is seeking expressions of interest from individuals and organisational representatives who are ready to contribute their leadership, expertise and vision to this important role through their participation in and contribution to the Culture and Arts Advisory Group (CAAG).

What?
CAAG is a collaborative forum that brings together leading thinkers and practitioners to provide strategic insight on the City’s cultural direction. Working alongside the City, CAAG members help shape a creative landscape that is vibrant, inclusive and distinctly Perth.
Why?
As a consultative forum you will play an important role in shaping the City’s cultural future. Providing strategic advice, contributing to ideas, and supporting initiatives that enhance the City’s identity and vibrancy.
Key contributions include:
- Championing the needs and aspirations of community and sector stakeholders
- Providing insight on emerging opportunities and planned initiatives
- Advising on major strategic work, including planning for 2029 and the renewal of the City’s Public Art Strategy
- Guiding best practice to ensure Perth remains aligned with national and global cultural ambitions
- Your expertise will help ensure Perth’s cultural identity continues to grow in ways that are meaningful, contemporary and deeply connected to place.
How?
CAAG brings together eleven respected and diverse leaders from across the creative and heritage sectors, including at least two Whadjuk Nyoongar representatives.
The group meets three times a year, with additional opportunities to participate in focused workshops and discussions aligned to your areas of expertise. Members contribute both strategic thinking and grounded insight, helping shape initiatives that will influence Perth for years to come.
Who?
We welcome expressions of interest from individuals or organisational representatives with expertise or lived experience in areas such as:
- First Nations and Whadjuk Nyoongar cultural heritage;
- The creative industries and heritage including sector management and advocacy;
- Artistic practice including performance, public art and multimedia and new technologies;
- Curation, interpretation and collections management;
- History and historical research;
- Architecture including heritage, landscape and interior architecture;
- Urban design and planning;
- Cultural heritage, sustainability and environmental management;
- Cultural tourism and visitor experience;
- Major public programs, festivals and events;
- Multicultural interests and international exchange;
- Archaeology and conservation;
- Heritage and/or cultural heritage conservation; and
- State Government.
Whadjuk Nyoongar representatives
The CAAG must include at least two Whadjuk Nyoongar community representatives, endorsed by the City’s Elders and Aboriginal Advisory Group, with a preference for gender diversity and balance.
Terms of Reference
The existing Terms of Reference will be updated following the membership recruitment process and confirmation of the new CAAG membership.
Renumeration
CAAG members contribute their expertise in a voluntary capacity, driven by a shared commitment to strengthening Perth’s cultural landscape.
Selection process
Applicants should demonstrate a high level of expertise and experience in one or more of the areas listed above and will be assessed based on the following criteria:
- Extent to which the applicant demonstrates professional accomplishment, relevant knowledge, experience and specialist expertise in their field.
- Extent to which the applicant can demonstrate an ability to provide strategic insight and contribute to cultural leadership within a capital city context, with a demonstrated reputation for working in the spirit of positive collaboration with a diverse peer group.
- Cultural and linguistic diversity, along with gender balance, will be considered in the group’s composition to ensure it reflects the community it serves and supports a broad range of perspectives and ideas.
Nomination process
To nominate please provide a current copy of your resume and a short summary (maximum 250 words) that outlines your relevant experience, qualifications and knowledge in respect to the two criteria listed above.
